3 STEPS TO PrEP - Alberta

PrEP in Alberta is still out of reach for many. While Alberta Health covers PrEP, it is only for people who meet the criteria for public funding. Read the Alberta Health Criteria for PrEP here. If you don’t qualify for coverage under this plan, PrEP is still available to you when you visit your doctor for a prescription for PrEP. You deserve a lot of credit for considering PrEP to prevent HIV infection, and you've come to the right place. Read on for more info.

You can get your prescription for PrEP filled by The Village Pharmacy on Church Street in Toronto. We have all brands of generic PrEP (Apo, Mylan, Teva) in stock, always.

How much does PrEP cost?

At The Village Pharmacy, you'll pay around $255 per month for all brands of generic Truvada (Apo, Mylan and Teva) and we'll even ship it to you wherever you are in Alberta for free when you order a 3-month supply.

Insurance Coverage

The Village Pharmacy can bill your private Insurance provider directly. We'll need some details about your insurance plan. If you have a Pay Direct card from your insurance provider, you can scan it and send it to us for direct billing to your insurance plan. The Village Pharmacy can bill all private insurance providers in Canada. We cannot bill government health plans outside Ontario at this time. Going on PrEP - Step 1

Make an appointment with your doctor to talk about going on PrEP.  

Your doctor will consult with you and ask you to get some blood tests to make sure you are a good candidate for PrEP.



Going on PrEP - Step 2

Get a prescription for PrEP from your doctor.

Once your tests come back and your doctor prescribes PrEP, ask your doctor to fax or email your prescription to The Village Pharmacy at 473 Church Street, Toronto. We'll get in touch with you to get details about insurance, payment, and answer any questions you may have.

Going on PrEP - Step 3

Sign for Delivery!

We'll take care of the details and ship your prescription to you wherever you are in Alberta. The only requirement we have is that you or someone you trust, signs for the package at the time of delivery. This is a legal requirement. Shipping takes up to 2-3 business days for Edmonton and Calgary, a little longer in outlying areas. Shipping is free when you order a 3-month supply.
