PrEP & STIs

Being on PrEP doesn't prevent you from getting an STI.  Here's how you can reduce your risk.

Being on PrEP Doesn't Protect you from STI's

Being on PrEP protects you from HIV, but doesn't protect you from contracting other sexually transmitted infections such as HPV, chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphillis, herpes, hepatitis and others.

Reduce your risk of contracting STIs in 2 ways:

  1. by practising safer sex using a condom,
  2. get tested for STI's regularly. Whether you use condoms or not, getting tested regularly will help make sure you catch any infections early, get the right treatment before complications arise, and prevent passing it to your partners.

Ask your doctor about preventing certain STI's with vaccines:

  • Twinrix - Hepatitis A & B
  • Gardisil - Human Papilloma Virus (HPV)
